Finally, there’s some good weather in the UK! After the typical rainy spring and wobbly start to summer, the warmest season is in full swing, and there’s no better way to celebrate the season than with a barbecue with all your friends and family.
Of course, you can make it really simple with the grill and a table set up outside, but if you want to make it into a proper occasion, you can add on all kinds of fun extras that will make it more than just your average grilling party.
Get the food sorted
Barbecues can be as simple or extravagant as you like. Whilst the staples will always be your sausages, burgers and veggie options, it might be a nice idea to mix it up a little to show what you and the grill are really capable of!
So put your chef hats on and prepare ahead, focussing on fussy things like vegetable and meat skewers, marinating vegetables and halloumi in plenty of garlic, whipping up an awesome pasta salad and making some awesome homemade dips to drizzle onto your patties.
And don’t neglect pudding either! You might all be very full from the barbecue, but we all know there’s a second stomach for dessert! Keep it light and summer with meringues, Eton Mess and berry cheesecake; these will go down an absolute treat with a glass of wine.
Grill to perfection
No-one wants a charred burger or piece of meat for dinner, so avoid this at all costs by preparing the barbecue correctly. The key to getting the perfectly cooked sausage is by letting all the flames go out before putting the food on.
If you’re cooking delicate ingredients like fish or mushrooms, use a foil tent to avoid burning these altogether and keeping their texture intact.
Make it a themed barbecue
Brits can’t resist a theme, even if it’s for something as laid back as a barbecue. If you’re having a barbecue to celebrate a special occasion, create a theme using the occasion you’re celebrating.
If it’s a national holiday, you could always opt for a Best of British theme and go all out with mini flags, afternoon tea towers and themed tablecloths. A harmless bit of fun, a theme brings out the funny side of any occasion.
Add on some entertainment
If you want the party to go on for a good few hours, you might want to think about sorting out some entertainment. Kids will be over the moon to see a croquet set, an obstacle course of a game of Twister set up. And nothing says British summer time quite like a swing-ball set!
Don’t forget the music either! With some long-lasting generators, you can enjoy your favourite bands uninterrupted for hours.
Keep an eye on the weather forecast and throw yourself an epic barbeque with all your friends and family! Soak in the sun, enjoy the food, and have a great time.
