A sofa is not just a place to relax in your living room. A well-designed sofa can make a difference in the aesthetics of your room. But, a standard sofa may last for around 5 years. If it is a high-end, costly model, it can last for more than 7 years. Still, you need to replace your sofa at a certain time. So, which signs indicate your old sofa needs replacement?

    Table of Contents

    • Sign 1- Deteriorated upholstery:
    • Sign 2- The sofa is quite unstable:
    • Sign 3- Creaking sound:
    • Sign 4- Bad odour:
    • Sign 5- A terrible look of upholstery:
    • Sign 6- Not getting the desired comfort:
    • Sign 7- Does not match your contemporary setup:

    Sign 1- Deteriorated upholstery:

Sun damage and pet accidents are common factors causing wear and tear on your sofa’s upholstery. Accidental spills of wine can also leave stains on the couches. Severe damages to your sofa are not repairable. For instance, if holes reveal foam and feathers, you should buy a new sofa. Your couch cannot be repaired if you find discoloured or ripped fabrics.

Sign 2- The sofa is quite unstable:

When you sit on your sofa, it feels unstable or wobbles. It denotes damage to the main frame of your couch or the loss of strength in its legs. In some cases, loose screws also lead to the same problems. Adding a new upholster will not solve the issue. Your old, unstable sofa needs to be replaced with a more durable and stable one.

    Sign 3- Creaking sound:

Once you sit on your couch, you hear some creaking and squeaking sounds. It shows a structural problem with your sofa. If there are issues with the joints on the metal or wooden frame of your sofa, you will hear these sounds. Besides, defective metal springs are sometimes responsible for this problem. Traditional sofas have screws and hardwoods in their frames. Thus, if these components get damaged, you can buy a new sofa.

    Sign 4- Bad odour:

The fabric or padding of your sofa is the source of an unpleasant odour. Baby’s leaky diapers, pets, and sweat are responsible for the odour. Although you have cleaned or vacuumed your sofa, the bad smell persists. That is why you should buy a new sofa.

Sign 5- A terrible look of upholstery:

You can notice heavy stains or fading colours on your old sofa. Frayed parts of the fabric may be patched. But, it will affect the aesthetics of your couch. Besides, UV rays make the fibres weaker. Although some users consider reupholstering, you can invest in a new sofa.

Sign 6- Not getting the desired comfort:

If your old sofa does not give you the desired comfort, it means reduced density of the filling. The problem can also be with the cushion’s shape or the fabric’s breathability. When you sit on this old sofa for long hours, you may feel a sore butt and back. It is a big sign of replacing the couch.

Sign 7- Does not match your contemporary setup:

You might have renovated your room or upgraded the interior design. So, your sofa also needs an upgrade. For instance, you can invest in trendy 2-seater sofas for your living room.

These are some signs of replacing your old sofa with a new one!
